Teacher

Jonathan started his teaching career in 1992.  In addition to teaching, Jonathan joined his brother, Edward, in his music retail business, Edward's Record World and CD Replay. The successful business was sold, and Jonathan continued as a popular teacher and coach ever since. Jonathan's close relationship with the school Alumni Associations, as well as the FANCTS Community Group, are another testament of his dedication to his continued community involvement.

Coach

Jonathan has coached many athletic teams since returning to the TDSB. As the Head Coach for Central Tech Blues football team for 9 years, Jonathan has guided the team to successful seasons in all of them. He has also had successful seasons coaching Track and Field, basketball, rugby, soccer,  and hockey. Celebrating past coaches and their accomplishments is also important to Jonathan. In 2007, he created the Chuck Wakefield Iron Man Award in his first year at Tech to recognize and acknowledge the 33 years that Coach Wakefield lead the Blues Senior football team. Jonathan also created the Pete Gawinsky Iron Man Award to celebrate and recognize the many years that Pete Gawinsky coached the Blues Junior football team. In 2016, Jonathan created the Bruce Smith Track and Field Award, to honour the most successful track coach at Central Tech. Jonathan's great relationship with the CTS Alumni Association secured the donations of beautiful trophies for all of these new awards. In 2017 Jonathan resurrected the Victoria Park Collegiate track team, after an 8 year absence, and recently revived the junior boys soccer team as well.

Personal Life

In addition to teaching and coaching, Jonathan's other passions in life are spending time with his young family, growing old with his friends, participating in physical activity, riding his bikes (motorized and non-motorized), and being able to play competitive hockey with former students. Reconnecting with his former student athletes is always a special time.
